The preparatory courses (from early September to mid-October 2016) will be offered at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (http://www.demogr.mpg.de) in Rostock, Germany.  The core courses (from mid-October 2016 until end of July 2017) will be held at the Department of Methods and Models for Economics, Territory and Finance (http://www.en.memotef.uniroma1.it) as well as the Department of Statistics (http://www.dss.uniroma1.it/it) at the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy.The EDSD does not charge fees. This is a great opportunity for authors to submit their papers directly to the web of Springer: http://genus.springeropen.com/. It is necessary to follow the procedures that Springer requires, both in the formatting of text and in the compilation of references. GENUS – Journal of Population Sciences – is an open access peer-reviewed journal published by Springer on behalf of the Sapienza University of Rome. Founded in 1934 by Corrado Gini, GENUS has adopted an interdisciplinary approach to population studies. It has an interdisciplinary focus by publishing articles of “pure” demography and articles aiming to further a better knowledge of the interrelationship between demography and biological, social and economic phenomena, connected with the evolution of the population. These have spanned not only pure demography but also anthropology and anthropometric, sociology and psychology, biology and genetics. In keeping with the times -and particularly from 1965 under Nora Federici, and from 1993 under Antonio Golini as directors – an increasing number of articles have been published on general population theories, population dynamics and mathematical demography. GENUS has always tried to promote open dialogue across cultural, ideological and at times theoretical walls in the attempt to understand the complexities underlying population issues.

The Institut Français Italia, the UNESCO Chair in Population, Migrations and Development of Sapienza University of Rome and the Department of Methods and Models for the Economy, Territory and Finance of Sapienza University of Rome in cooperation with the Italian Association for Population Studies (AISP), are organising an international conference on youth, migrations and development around the Mediterranean, with the aim of highlighting the new interdisciplinary research perspectives that are currently emerging on these issues.The conference seeks to bring together members of the scientific community as well as civil society and institutional actors who are interested in the relationship between young people, migrations and development in the Mediterranean area. More specifically, its main objective is to provide a broad overview of the current state of research on three specific populations: 1) descendants of migrants (the so-called “second generation”); 2) children of refugees; 3) unaccompanied minors. Currently, these three groups are steadily increasing in most European countries. The issues related to their integration into the socio-economic and political life of European countries have long been central to the concerns of the international scientific community. Il Master di I livello in “Immigrazione e politiche pubbliche di accoglienza e integrazione” del Dipartimento di Scienze Politiche dell’Università di Napoli Federico II, finalizzato a fornire contenuti conoscitivi, strumenti metodologici e risorse operative utili alla comprensione critica del fenomeno dell’immigrazione, in collaborazione con Save the Children Napoli, organizza la prima Giornata di studio sulle migrazioni “Noi nel Mondo e il Mondo da noi: dai diritti all’integrazione dei migranti”, che si svolgerà venerdì 20 novembre dalle 10:30 alle 17:00 presso l’Università di Napoli Federico II (Aula Spinelli, Via Leopoldo Rodinò, 22).La Giornata di studi si articola in due parti. La prima ripercorre la storia dell’emigrazione italiana all’estero, mostrando un fenomeno tuttora vivo e negli ultimi anni in crescita, e come il migrare, ieri come oggi, rappresenti una rottura lacerante, demarcando un ‘prima’ e un ‘dopo’ nel continuum esistenziale dell’individuo. La seconda parte ha l’obiettivo di mostrare come negli ultimi anni siano cambiati i flussi migratori provenienti dall’estero e come stia mutando il volto della presenza straniera in Italia, in Campania e a Napoli, in una complessificazione che richiede un continuo aggiornamento delle conoscenze, politiche lungimiranti e una consapevole capacità di gestione del fenomeno verso il pieno inserimento degli immigrati e dei loro figli nelle diverse realtà territoriali del Paese. Following the great success of the first conference of the European Society of Historical Demography (ESHD), which took place from 25 to 27 September 2014 in Alghero (Italy), we are pleased to announce the second ESHD conference, which will take place from 21 to 24 September 2016 in Leuven (Belgium).For this second ESHD conference, we will encourage the participants to be innovative! The conference theme, innovating historical demography: the world and Europe, is aligned with this objective. Tre giorni in cui la distanza fra scienza e grande pubblico si accorcerà, così da diffondere una migliore percezione della rilevanza del metodo statistico e della scienza demografica. La città scelta è Treviso che ha visto nascere nella sua provincia (precisamente a Motta di Livenza) Corrado Gini, fondatore e preside (dal 1936 al 1954) della Facoltà di Scienze statistiche, demografiche e attuariali di Roma e senza dubbio personalità tra le più eminenti della statistica italiana di ogni tempo. Allo scienziato verrà dedicata l’edizione 2015 del Convegno Annuale della SIS – Società Italiana di Statistica, che richiamerà nella città di Treviso più di 300 studiosi d’Italia e Europa, e che si terrà nella settimana del Festival.Il Festival è stato voluto dalla SIS -Società italiana di Statistica e si avvale della collaborazione dell’Istat, Istituto nazionale di statistica, i quali hanno nella loro mission anche la diffusione della cultura statistica nel nostro Paese.
