Abstract

Usually the public statistic describes the evolution of the population through the rate of natural increase and the net migration rate. This latter results from the difference between the number of immigrants (people coming into an area) and the number of emigrants (people leaving an area) throughout the year. In our paper we propose an original use of administrative longitudinal data in order describe individual migration trajectories that cross the canton of Ticino, in Switzerland. In this way, we propose a shift from the classical contextual point of view, to an individual point of view of migration. In this paper, we focus on young women and men aged from 24 to 28 years old and born in Italy who are at least for one year living in Ticino.
