Abstract

Since the beginning of the 2000s, internal mobility does not follow a linear trend. The wide gap between North and South and the recent economic crisis seems to affect the dynamics and the characteristics of internal mobility. In this context, the greater participation of women and foreigners changes the shape of the phenomenon. Therefore the analysis of the characteristics of the migrants allows not only to understand the important changes in the dynamics of internal migration, but also to account for an important socio-demographic realities. In this work, the aim is to highlight the changes of the migration flows in terms of individual characteristics of the migrants between 2002 and 2015. We want to identify the characteristics of migrants and to determine the contribution of factors such as gender and citizenship. A generational approach will be use by mean of migration rates by age. Furthermore, we want to verify whether the individual characteristics are more important than the origin and destination statistical regions. This will be performed through a multinomial regression model, considering three different typologies of internal migration: within the same province, between provinces of the same statistical region and between different statistical regions.
