Abstract

The study considers the role of personality traits for union, job and fertility careers. We use the German Socio Economic Panel and a sample of men and women for which we have extended life-course trajectories. Sequence analysis identifies a clear set of clusters. With further multinomial regressions techniques, we establish the role of personality traits and a set of explanatory variables. We show that personality traits not only affects fertility directly, as it has been reported earlier, but also indirectly through union formation and job career.
