Abstract
This paper analyzes health differentials by place of birth focusing on the diminishing healthy migrant advantage over duration of stay in Italy. We use data from the Italian Survey on Income and Living Conditions (2009). We estimate the odds of reporting poor self-reported health, to have activity limitations and chronic morbidity by means of logistic regressions. Our results indicate that migrants in Italy enjoy the healthy migrant effect. However, we observe an ongoing convergence process of the health conditions of migrants towards those of natives. The convergence is completed with respect to self-rated health. We find evidence of the ongoing convergence process for all groups of migrants by country of birth, although some differences are observed.
