Abstract

This paper aims to understand the link between household demographic structures and educational attainment of children in an impovrished rural zone in Madagascar.

We collected datas through a quantitative and qualitative survey about 254 household in the zone. The qualitative survey consisted in observations within two villages and the two states primary schools attached to it. Datas were also collected through semi structured interviews conducted with teachers, parents and childrens.

This datas will help us to understand if childrens duties such as domestic chores, farming tasks to perform affect their educational attainments?; if there are differences between younger and older sibling, between boys and girls.

We will try to investigate how social status and social roles of older and younger sibling, boys and girls, impact their shooling and their daily life. How can it affects their school carreer?
