Abstract

This paper discusses a methodology based on IPAT equation over the period 2013-2060 to assess the performances of migration management of local governments when economic and environmental aspects are considered. In particular, the focus is on the South-Eastern European area where is recently experienced high-volumes of immigrants. However, in a globalized economy, and for global environmental assets such as the climate system, direct (immigrant) and indirect (emigrant) pressures from consumption activities are important to measure in receiving countries as well as in sending countries. The inescapable conclusion is the growing importance of environmental factors, already acknowledged in high-level initiatives of UNECE, OECD and Eurostat such as “GDP and Beyond” and “Europe 2020” motivates the need to more effectively measure our environment and its capacity to remain available to future generations.
