Abstract
This paper aims at analyzing the influence of climatic factors on infant and child mortality in a Sardinian coastal community, Alghero, for the birth cohorts 1890-1930. Adopting a micro-analytical approach some seasonal mortality differentials have been detected. If several studies referring to other Italian regions have shown that winter could represent a severe obstacle to child survival, especially in the early phase of life, in the Sardinian context death risks were higher in summer and autumn, in particular when coinciding with weaning.
