The Italian Association for Population Studies (AISP), Demography Section of the Italian Statistical Society, aims at promoting population knowledge, teaching of Demography, publications of reports, and conference organisations. AISP counts more than 200 members and is open to exchanges and collaborations at international level.
The Association complies with the indications and general rules of the SIS (Società Italiana di Statistica), and, in particular, endeavours to organise its own initiatives so as to favour synergies with SIS.
People and institutions can easily become members of the AISP, by sending an application form to the Chairman or the Secretary of the Association, which will be evaluated and approved by the Scientific Council.
The Giornate di Studio sulla Popolazione (Popdays), held every two years, is one of the most important initiatives of the Italian Association for the Study of Population (Sis-Aisp). On that occasion, Italian and international leading experts and scholars, mainly from academia, the National Institute of Statistics (Istat) and other national and governmental agencies, come together to present completed, planned, and ongoing research and to provide an opportunity for comparison across a broad overview of the issues currently debated about population and society. Conferences are based on parallel sessions, which in later editions have received voluntary contributions of more than 20 subject areas.
